The Global Talent Visa offers the applicant the flexibility to start their own business, work independently, or be employed, without being tied to a single employer. This system aims to attract globally recognised individuals in their fields as well as those with the potential to become future leaders. The application consists of two stages: endorsement and the visa application.

- Indefinite Leave to Remain: Those in the “Exceptional Talent” category can apply for ILR after 3 years, while those in the “Exceptional Promise” category can apply after 5 years.

- Right to Live with Family Members: Spouses, partners, and children under 18 can be included in the visa application as dependants.
Global Talent Visa Application Requirements
Endorsement Stage
The applicant must be recognised as a talented or promising individual in their field by an endorsing body authorised by the Home Office. These bodies and the fields they cover are:
- Science, Engineering, Medicine, Humanities: The Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering, British Academy, UKRI
- Digital Technology: Tech Nation
- Arts and Culture: Arts Council England
The application typically requires one or more of the following criteria:
- Awards or publications with international recognition
- Significant contributions to their field
- Strong letters of recommendation written for this purpose
Individuals who have received certain high-level international awards may apply for the visa directly and are exempt from the endorsement stage.
Visa Stage
Once the endorsement letter is received, the application is made under general visa rules. At this stage, a criminal record check, healthcare surcharge, and biometric data are collected.
Global Talent Visa Application Process
- Endorsement Application:
- An online application is submitted to the appropriate endorsing body.
- It is supported by documents such as a CV, awards, publications, and letters of recommendation.
- The application is evaluated, and the outcome is reported to the Home Office.
- Visa Application:
- After receiving the endorsement, the online visa application form is completed within 3 months.
- The visa and health fees are paid.
- The passport, documents, and biometric information are submitted to a visa application centre.
The processing time typically ranges from 3 to 8 weeks. Successful applicants gain extensive freedom to work in the UK, career development opportunities, and a stable path toward indefinite leave to remain.
